In March, Dario Vitale was appointed as the creative director of Versace. This announcement followed the departure of long-time creative director Donatella Versace from the brand established by her late brother Gianni Versace in 1978. In September, during Milan Fashion Week, Vitale presented his much-anticipated debut collection for the Italian fashion house, which was ultimately labeled a “disaster” by members of theFashionSpot forums. The Italian designer, a graduate of Istituto Marangoni, now offers another insight into his vision for Versace with the launch of a new eyewear campaign. Vitale features Aimee Lou Wood, Wesley Glouchkov, Ouri, Joseph Quinn, Josh Caffé, and Giovanni Luciano as the faces of the Versace Greca eyewear, photographed by Blommers and Schumm.

DK92 immediately described the campaign as “tragic.”
“I understand the intention but remain unconvinced. They are attempting to move away from Versace’s tacky/sexy image to a sexy/cool/nerdy aesthetic; however, it ends up resembling Versus. Changing a brand’s image is challenging. You cannot rewrite or erase history; it must be embraced,” stated Lola701.
“Absolutely tragic nonsense,” echoed Milanese Fashion Dreams.
90sfan also expressed disappointment: “Mediocre at best and a poor imitation of Karlheinz Weinberger’s work. Pathetic,” they criticized.
“Hideous and does absolutely nothing for me. My biggest pet peeve in fashion is when creative directors join a house and try to erase its imagery. This is far from sexy and un-Versace. If anything, the sense of sexuality and glamour should be heightened after Donatella’s departure,” lamented vogue28.
