Catherine O’Hara always had people laughing—and she wanted to do the same when her time on Earth had come to an end.
More than a decade before the Home Alone actress passed away at age 71 following a brief illness, she revealed how she wanted to die, sharing the way she hoped to spend her final moments.
“Laughing,” the Schitt’s Creek star told Vanity Fair in a questionnaire for their October 2013 issue. “Surrounded by my old grandchildren, who are telling me to ‘let go, already, Grandma!’”
Catherine—who shares sons Matthew Welch, 32, and Luke Welch, 28, with husband Bo Welch but wasn’t known to have grandkids——also wasn’t opposed to the idea of reincarnation, joking, “I’ve got to believe God is into recycling. I’d like to come back in the body of a much more evolved person who has lovely, thick hair and skin that tans.”
It was that hilarious self-deprecation and joie de vivre that made Catherine so beloved by anyone who met her. So, it was no surprise that the world was completely heartbroken when news of her death broke on Jan. 30.
