Disneyland Employees Hospitalized Due to Hazmat Odor Reports

Disneyland is addressing a concerning incident.

Several employees at the Southern California resort were hospitalized after being exposed to an unusual odor that caused dizziness and shortness of breath, as reported by the theme park.

“This afternoon, building materials being used by a contractor caused a reaction backstage at Disneyland park, and the area was assessed by appropriate response teams,” Disneyland officials informed local Los Angeles outlet FOX11 in a statement on March 10. “Several cast members were treated on-site by paramedics and released; currently, five cast members experiencing dizziness and shortness of breath have been taken to local hospitals.”

The Disney representatives added, “Out of an abundance of caution, nearby onstage areas were cleared of guests and are expected to reopen shortly.”

Disneyland officials later confirmed that a total of seven employees had been taken to local hospitals for evaluation, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Earlier in the day, fire officials were called to the Anaheim theme park around 12:30 p.m. local time following a report of an unidentified odor in the Tomorrowland area of the resort near the Star Wars-themed attraction Star Tours, as stated by Anaheim Police Sergeant Matt Sutter to the Times.
