Doja Cat is retracting her recent criticism of Timothee Chalamet.
Earlier this week, the 30-year-old rapper and singer called out the actor for stating that people no longer care about ballet or opera, which has sparked significant backlash.
Now, Doja is backtracking and has admitted that she made her previous video for attention.

“I am going to come out and say that I know nothing about opera. I know nothing about ballet,” she stated at the beginning of her video, mentioning that aside from her childhood experiences, she is “in no way, shape, or form a real professional dancer.”
Doja went on to express that she’s not the most qualified person to comment on the topic or Timothee‘s remarks.
“I’ve never been to a ballet. I’ve never seen an opera. And I took it upon myself yesterday to kind of ‘give it to the man’ because there is a culture based around outrage,” she explained. “What I was doing yesterday was virtue signaling because I wanted to connect and I knew that Timothée‘s mistake was something that I could use to engage with people and gain their support. It’s an easy way to attract clicks, likes, approval, and all sorts of attention from others. So I did that yesterday without really considering my motivations.”
“The truth is, I don’t know anything about opera. I don’t know anything about ballet, and I’ve never attended either performance… I wanted to feel like I was part of something larger than myself,” she continued. “I wanted validation like everyone else was receiving in the comments sections. And I wanted to appear heroic, and that’s what occurred.”
Doja mentioned that she’s not proud of joining the bandwagon but felt it necessary to address it after “educating” herself.
“It just reinforces the fact that sometimes I think things through and then realize, ‘Never mind,’” she concluded. “So never mind.”
A person who IS qualified to comment on Timothee‘s remarks is prima ballerina Misty Copeland, who concluded a 25-year career with the American Ballet Theatre last fall. Discover what she had to say here!
