Dream Theater Launches 2025 Tour: Setlist and Video Insights

On the night of February 7, 2024, the legendary progressive metal band Dream Theater launched the North American segment of their highly anticipated 40th anniversary tour. The electrifying 18-song lineup featured the live premiere of a brand new track from their latest album, Parasomnia, alongside a performance of ?Systematic Chaos? for the first time since 2017. Notably, this event marked Mike Portnoy’s first North American performance with the band since 2010, adding an extra layer of excitement for long-time fans.

The venue, the historic Metropolitan Opera House in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was filled with passionate fans eager to witness Dream Theater celebrate their remarkable four-decade journey. The concert also coincided with the release of their 16th studio album, which dropped on the same day, making it a night to remember for both the band and their dedicated followers.

The setlist closely resembled those from Dream Theater’s earlier 2024 performances, though with a few notable changes. ?Midnight Messiah? made its live debut, becoming the second song from Parasomnia to be performed on stage. Additionally, the band revived “The Dark Eternal Night,” which had not been played live since 2017, much to the thrill of the audience.

The alignment of the album release with the tour kickoff made the evening truly remarkable, as fans witnessed the next chapter of Dream Theater’s illustrious legacy unfold right before their eyes.

Mike Portnoy Reflects on His First Dream Theater Album Since 2009

On the significant day of Parasomnia‘s release, Mike Portnoy shared an emotional message with fans, reflecting on their journey together, which is included below.

Exactly one year ago (to the day!), February 7, 2024, the five of us gathered in the same room for the first time in over a decade. We dedicated much of the year to creating our first album together in 15 years. Today, we are thrilled to finally share it with all of you?

We couldn?t be prouder or more excited about what we?ve accomplished. The experience of being together again inspired us deeply, and we believe we truly rose to the occasion to produce something extraordinary.
?Parasomnia? encapsulates everything that is quintessentially Dream Theater, blending elements from our past with innovative visions for the future?

We hope you enjoy this auditory journey. It is best appreciated in your ideal listening environment, ideally experienced from start to finish, akin to watching a film. Regardless of how you choose to enjoy it, we hope you find as much joy in listening to it as we did in creating it?
