The iconic rock band Alice in Chains has made the difficult decision to cancel all of their scheduled headlining performances and festival appearances for 2025 due to a serious medical emergency involving their drummer, Sean Kinney. This unforeseen situation arose on Thursday night, just hours prior to their planned tour launch in Uncasville, Connecticut. The band had to abruptly pull the plug on their performance after announcing on social media that Kinney had encountered a “non-life-threatening medical emergency” during the soundcheck. Initially, it seemed that no other shows were at risk; however, a subsequent announcement confirmed the cancellation of the entire tour.
In a heartfelt statement, the band expressed, “After careful consideration and following the advice of medical professionals, we have made the decision to cancel our upcoming festival performances and the Alice in Chains headline shows.” They emphasized that while the band was eager to return to the stage, Sean’s health must take precedence at this time. Thankfully, his long-term prognosis is encouraging, and the band sincerely appreciates the understanding and support from their fans during this challenging period.

The cancellation of the tour impacts nearly all of Alice in Chains’ planned concerts for 2025. This includes the cancellation of an entire month of headlining shows, as well as their anticipated performances at major festivals such as Sonic Temple, Welcome to Rockville, and Boardwalk Rock. The band’s dedicated fans are understandably disappointed, as these festivals are significant highlights in the rock music calendar.

Currently, only one date remains on Alice in Chains’ 2025 schedule – a performance at the Back to the Beginning concert event, celebrating the legendary Black Sabbath in Birmingham, England, on July 5. It’s worth noting that Alice in Chains has not undertaken a tour since 2023. Their last live performance occurred at the Sick New World festival held in Las Vegas, marking their only appearance in 2024. Fans are hopeful for their return to the stage in the near future.
