Anne and I became friends around 2006,” Duff reminisced. “During a challenging time in her life, I learned that she was having a tough time, so on a trip to NYC from Baltimore, I baked her a cake that read ‘Don’t let the bastards win.’ True to form, she never did.”

“Our friendship was intricate, and I vividly remember our last conversation before our lives took different directions. It was a spirited debate on the merits of catfish cuisine. I distinctly remember phrases like ‘trash fish,’ ‘tastes like mud,’ and the term ‘cake boy’ being thrown around during our exchange, haha,” the Kids Baking Championship judge reflected. “Anne and I always engaged in lively and somewhat sharp exchanges. Although I never understood why our paths diverged, I always hoped that wherever she was, she was finding the happiness she truly deserved.

He elaborated, “A year or two ago, while attending a gala in NYC with my wife and daughter, I took Josephine out to the lobby to give her a break from the speeches at our table. We were playing around the marble columns when we unexpectedly ran into Anne. At that moment, we hadn’t spoken in years, and I won’t disclose the details of our conversation, but I can say that it left my heart uplifted and filled with joy. It genuinely seemed to me that Anne had discovered a degree of happiness and love in her life. Life can be incredibly challenging, and we must exhibit strength to navigate through it. Anne was one of the toughest individuals I’ve known, but beneath that tough exterior was an incredible depth of compassion and kindness that was truly beautiful.”

“My heart fills with joy when I think about the love and tranquility that Anne seemed to have found recently. Her genuine smile for my daughter and me in that lobby makes this tragic loss feel just a little more bearable,” Duff concluded. “Wherever you are, Anne, I hope they have slow-moving rivers because when I reunite with you, we will grab a couple of rods, a pint of chicken livers, and a six-pack, and I’ll teach you how to catch and cook the best catfish you’ve ever tasted. Rest well, chef.”

Authorities have recently released additional details regarding Anne‘s passing.
