Vince Gill has shared insights on the distinctive challenges he faces while performing with the Eagles at the stunning Sphere in Las Vegas. Since joining the iconic band in 2017, after the unfortunate passing of Glenn Frey, Gill has had the opportunity to explore a new dimension of live music. Recently, he was a guest on the podcast Shred With Shifty, hosted by Chris Shiflett, the talented guitarist from the Foo Fighters. During their engaging discussion, Shiflett inquired about Gill’s experience with the Sphere’s immersive and captivating visuals.
“I try to ignore it,” the country music star candidly admitted. “I find it quite distracting, and it can make me feel a bit off-balance. There are visuals moving and tilting all around, and while it’s fascinating, it can also be overwhelming.”
“I often joke that it’s the largest audience I’ve ever performed for who seem to be completely oblivious to me,” Gill continued. “However, the audience is there to enjoy the amazing visuals and theatrical elements, and that’s truly the essence of this performance space.”

Describing the Las Vegas venue as “incredible,” Gill further revealed that the Sphere’s mesmerizing visuals have, at times, distracted him during his performances. He expressed that he occasionally loses track of his singing when he becomes too absorbed in the dynamic visuals around him.

“If I get caught up watching the visuals, I can forget to come back in and sing, which can lead to some awkward moments,” he confessed. He noted that he’s not alone in this struggle, as fellow band member Joe Walsh often comments after shows, saying, “I look back and realize I had no idea how large my nose looks on that giant screen.”
Since commencing their highly anticipated residency in September 2024, the Eagles have captivated audiences with 32 performances at the Sphere. Following a solo tour this summer, Gill is set to reunite with fellow bandmates Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit, and Deacon Frey for the Eagles’ final series of Sphere dates this upcoming fall season.
