Eddie Vedder Curses Live on TV at Chicago Cubs Game

Although he performs for thousands every night, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder had a slip of the tongue on live television that could put the Chicago Cubs broadcast in a bit of trouble.

Vedder, a lifelong Chicago Cubs supporter, was present on Saturday (Sept. 13) as the hometown Cubs honored the retirement of returning veteran first baseman Anthony Rizzo during their game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Rizzo, a cherished Cubs player who was part of their 2016 World Series team, spent part of the game in the Wrigley outfield bleachers with fans and a few famous friends. Among them were Vedder and supermodel Cindy Crawford, who along with Rizzo sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh-inning stretch.

It was clearly a joyful occasion for Rizzo and friends as they enjoyed the game among the fans. However, at one point, the field reporter was tasked with interviewing Rizzo, Crawford, and Vedder about their seventh-inning stretch performance.

When asked what it was like to celebrate the day with Rizzo, Vedder remarked, “I’ve never gotten to sit with my favorite player in the bleachers.” But when questioned about singing with Rizzo and Crawford, he admitted, “Oh, I was terrified.” When asked why, Vedder explained, “Cause I didn’t want them to fuck up,” which elicited laughter from Rizzo, Crawford, and a bemused grin from the reporter, as shown below.

Fans on social media quickly pointed out that Vedder might have had a few drinks to loosen his tongue for the NSFW slip on air. Even Rizzo himself may not have been at his best as a home run was hit in his direction during the game and he managed to drop the ball.
