Erik Per Sullivan Earns Harvard Master’s Degree

Erik Per Sullivan from Malcolm in the Middle Reemerges After Nearly Two Decades

Erik Per Sullivan is currently pursuing his dream at one of the most prestigious institutions in the world.

Malcolm in the Middle star Erik is diligently working towards earning his master’s degree at Harvard University, a fact that was recently shared by his former TV father, Bryan Cranston. During a conversation about the highly anticipated revival of the beloved series, Bryan, who portrayed the family patriarch Hal, provided an insightful update on Erik’s life post-acting.

“He’s actually going to Harvard,” Bryan shared with hosts David Spade and Dana Carvey during an episode of the Fly on the Wall podcast aired on June 11. “He’s incredibly intelligent, and he’s currently working on his master’s at Harvard right now.”

As Bryan elaborated, he took the opportunity to inform Erik about the revival’s progress. However, the talented former child actor graciously declined the invitation to reprise his role.

“I reached out to Erik and excitedly told him, ‘Hey, we got the show! It’s coming back!’” Bryan reminisced. “He responded, ‘Oh, that’s fantastic!’ But when I mentioned bringing him back, he said, ‘Oh, no, no, I don’t want to do it. But it’s fantastic.'” This exchange highlights Erik’s commitment to his current academic pursuits and his decision to step away from the entertainment industry.

Beyond his academic endeavors, Erik—who made the conscious choice to leave Hollywood behind in 2010—has made it clear to Bryan that he is not interested in returning to the television scene.
