Wearing a signed Britney Spears shirt, Lil Wayne officially launched his Tha Carter VI Tour in front of a packed audience at Madison Square Garden on Friday night, June 6. This marks Wayne’s inaugural solo headlining performance at this iconic venue, an event that his fans had eagerly anticipated.
Weezy celebrated a monumental occasion as Friday also coincided with the release of C6, inviting thousands of his dedicated fans to join him in commemorating this long-awaited moment. For over two decades, these supporters have passionately followed Wayne through all the ups and downs of his remarkable career, solidifying their loyalty.
“I released Tha Carter VI,” Wayne expressed with heartfelt gratitude to the audience during the show. “I want to extend my deepest appreciation to every single person supporting that incredible album, and to everyone who has been with me since the very beginning. You all mean the world to me. I’d like to thank everyone involved with the album, as each of you played a vital role — your contributions are truly valued.”
Wayne seamlessly integrated live performances of tracks from Tha Carter VI while also treating the crowd to a selection of his countless anthems and timeless hits from his illustrious Hall-of-Fame catalog. This showcase reaffirmed his status as one of the greatest lyricists to ever grace the stage, captivating the audience with his unparalleled talent.
Tunechi had a few surprises lined up for the audience, including a special appearance from Cory Gunz, who joined him for the electrifying performance of “6 Foot 7 Foot.” Additionally, LL COOL J graced the stage to perform “Rock the Bells” after Wayne creatively interpolated this classic hit from LL’s 1985 catalog in the track “Bells” from Tha Carter VI.
In an impressive display of stamina and artistry, Lil Wayne packed over 36 tracks into his exhilarating 70-minute set. The Tha Carter VI Tour will take a brief hiatus before resuming with a 34-date North American trek, beginning again at the end of June in Virginia.
