Fallout Inspired RPG Like Baldur’s Gate 3 Available Free Now

If you throw a rock, you might hit a cRPG on Steam. There are tons of them, and many modern titans of the genre were influenced by the initial Fallout and Baldur’s Gate games from Interplay and BioWare, respectively.

Over on Steam now, you can try out a game that aims to marry both of those franchises together with its own spin. It’s due out later this year, but you can try it for free now.

RadCity Looks Like Classic Fallout

It Has That Vibe

Due out in “Q4 2026,” RadCity: A Post-Apocalyptic Adventure has a demo you can play right now on Steam. Described as an “atmospheric exploration game,” it’s set after a nuclear war, in an “unnamed eastern European industrial city.” You’ll explore that world with a top-down isometric camera, gathering supplies and solving puzzles.

Here’s the full description: “Scavenge, explore, and escape a dead city in a broken, post-apocalyptic world. Gather enough food for 40 days and prepare for a train journey to a place of refuge. An atmospheric adventure and exploration game featuring a top-down perspective and a finely crafted 3D world.”

Given the long lead time, there’s still plenty to refine as we approach the Q4 release date, but there’s definitely something here already. “Always find shelter when the night comes” is a heck of a mechanic, too, and it’ll be interesting to see how that plays out amid the setting. The fact that it has a pointed goal of escaping the city could also lend itself well to some cool narrative choices.

The studio behind RadCity is the Romanian-based Babadokia, which is simultaneously working on the game Super Solar (also listed on Steam). It currently has no release date, and is a dungeon crawler in a sci-fi setting featuring the titular Super Solar gunship. The team clearly has a knack for crafting isometric games, and given how timeless they are, audiences are still connecting with them.

It’s A Good Excuse To Play

Rad City Dark Hallway

If you aren’t in the market for a massive game right now, the good news is that the RadCity demo is fairly short. Players are reporting playtimes of anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes, depending on how much you explore and discover. One user notes that the demo took them an hour and a half, and they didn’t discover everything it had to offer.

If you’re scrounging around Steam for the next thing to play, RadCity is fairly low-stakes in terms of the time investment. If you decide the demo is for you, you have something to look forward to later in the year.
