Family Update from Shaquil Barrett Following Daughter’s Drowning

Shaquil Barrett and his family are transforming their profound grief into a powerful learning opportunity for others.

More than two years post the tragic drowning incident of their beloved 2-year-old daughter, Arrayah in their family swimming pool, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett and his wife, Jordanna Barrett, are actively working to raise awareness about water safety and the importance of vigilance around swimming pools, as they navigate their ongoing grief.

“Every day is a challenge,” Shaquil shared during a heartfelt appearance on Good Morning America on July 20. “It’s a constant struggle that doesn’t become easier with time, yet we are learning to manage our emotions. We find strength in open conversations with each other, our families, and close friends.”

The dedicated NFL player, who is a proud father to son Shaquil Jr., 13, and Braylon, 12, along with daughters Aaliyah, 10, Allanah, 17 months, and newborn Amaiah Marie, highlights the importance of checking in with their children to ensure they’re coping well with the situation and their emotions are being addressed.

For Shaquil and Jordanna, who celebrated their marriage in 2012, the support from their community has been instrumental in helping them “continue to move forward and heal in a healthy, meaningful way.”
