Fast & Furious 11 Updates and Jason Momoa’s Street Fighter Insights

The star of Aquaman, Jason Momoa, has shared insights about his upcoming action fantasy film, the live-action Street Fighter movie produced by Legendary Entertainment. This project is based on the well-known video game series by Capcom. Momoa has experience with video game adaptations, having recently starred in the blockbuster adventure comedy A Minecraft Movie from Warner Bros. Pictures.

What did Jason Momoa say about the Street Fighter movie?

In a recent interview on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, Momoa expressed excitement about his role as Blanka, highlighting his trust in the creative team and cast behind the Street Fighter movie. Blanka is portrayed as a wild man from the Brazilian jungle and made his debut in Capcom’s Street Fighter II game in 1991.

“There’s no one better to play Blanka, so that’s why I’m doing it,” Momoa stated. “We’ll do what the audience would like to see — practical, CG — we’re gonna do our best. The cast is insane. My son and I play it; it’s the only game I played.”

The upcoming Street Fighter movie is directed by Kitao Sakurai (known for Bad Trip) and features a screenplay by Dalan Musson. The film centers around a group of fighters, including Chun-Li, competing in a global one-on-one fighting tournament. The cast also includes Andrew Koji (from Snake Eyes, Warrior) as Ryu, Noah Centineo (from The Recruit, Warfare) as Ken, former WWE champion Roman Reigns (from Hobbs & Shaw) as Akuma, Callina Liang (from Presence) as Chun-Li, Orville Peck as Vega, and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, among others.

Additonally, when questioned about reprising his role as Dante in the next installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, the actor from Dune revealed that he has not yet received a script for that project.

“I would love to come back and play, man. People all over the world love that character—it’s crazy. But I got no script, so not that soon,” Momoa explained.

Fast X: Part 2, will again be directed by Kitao Sakurai. Although Fast X was initially intended to start a new trilogy of Fast and Furious films, Vin Diesel confirmed in February 2024 that the next film will serve as a “grand finale.” Reports suggest that this story may harken back to the original Fast and Furious movie, potentially introducing a different villain than Dante.

The release date for the Street Fighter movie is set for October 16, 2026.
