More Information on the Two Girls Reportedly Thrown From the Ferris Wheel at the Louisiana Harvest Festival
According to ABC News, the incident occurred around noon on Saturday, November 1, at the Louisiana Harvest Festival. Per the festival’s official website, the gathering and carnival display is an annual event “dedicated to supporting the local agriculture-based community.” During the event, two young girls, both under the age of 13, were riding the Ferris wheel when they were “thrown” from their booth.
“The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal is actively investigating an incident in which two riders fell from a Ferris wheel ride at the New Roads Harvest Festival Saturday,” the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal reportedly asserted.
A witness told the outlet that it appears that the booth the girls were riding in “tipped upside down and dumped the girls out.”
“It caught on to the wires, and then it tilted over, and the two girls fell out. I heard like a body, just like something falling. I heard a loud boom,” Madison Fields reportedly explained. “It was two girls, and one of the girls fell on her face, and she was really damaged.”
Pointe Coupée Parish Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux reportedly suggested that “mechanical failure in the part that holds the children in their seats may be to blame,” per NBC News.
The Girls Are Reportedly Injured
According to ABC News, Parish Sheriff Thibodeaux asserted that both of the girls were taken to hospitals. Additionally, he noted that one of the girls had to be airlifted to a medical facility.
“Our hearts go out to the families, and our prayers,” the sheriff added, per ABC News.
Per CBS News, one of the girls sustained broken bones while the other “may have bleeding in her brain.” Furthermore, it was reported that the fall was at least 20 feet. The outlet also stated that circulating footage shows a third girl hanging onto the booth in the aftermath of the pair’s initial fall; this third girl reportedly sustained no injuries.
