Named These Are the Waves: A Celebration of the Music of Conway Savage, this much-anticipated event is scheduled to take place from September 12 to 14 in the vibrant Irish county town of Dundalk. This festival promises to be a memorable gathering for music lovers and a heartfelt tribute to Savage’s artistic journey.

According to a report from the Dundalk Democrat, Conway Savage’s deep connection with Dundalk began in 2000 when he graced the stage at the Spirit Store venue alongside Suzie Higgie of Falling Joys. His relationship with the local music community flourished as he collaborated with local musician Mark Corcoran and returned to perform in Dundalk multiple times. Additionally, he recorded at the local Tumbleweed Studios on numerous occasions, further cementing his bond with the town.

The upcoming festival at the Spirit Store will showcase a lineup of talented musicians who were closely associated with Conway Savage, including his former bandmate from Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Mick Harvey. Additionally, Suzie Higgie will perform the entire album Soon Will Be Tomorrow, which she and Savage released in 1998, adding a nostalgic touch to the event.

Moreover, the festival will feature an impressive roster that includes Terry Edwards, known for his collaborations with PJ Harvey, as well as Jim Yamouridis and Robert Tickner, both of whom have enjoyed collaborative experiences with Savage, either in studio settings or as part of his band. Conway Savage’s musical career began in the early 1980s, performing with various bands such as Feral Dinosaurs, Dust on the Bible, and Happy Orphans. He gained significant recognition in 1990 when he joined Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds as their pianist, organist, and occasional backing vocalist. He remained an essential part of the band for 27 years until he stepped away in 2017 to undergo treatment for a serious brain tumor.

In September 2018, it was sadly reported that Conway Savage had passed away at the age of 58, a tragic loss due to his ongoing battle with health issues. His contributions to the music world and the many lives he touched through his artistry will always be remembered.
