Firelink Edition Transforms the Game Experience

Dark Souls 2 may be a more divisive entry in the franchise compared to both its predecessor and sequel, but it remains an excellent game to revisit and enjoy in 2026, serving as a crucial part of the overall narrative for the trilogy.

While the base game is solid on its own, there is a vibrant and active modding community that continues to create ways to make your next playthrough unique, whether by adding new content or modifying existing elements.

A new mod has just been released that does precisely that, and it’s one that true fans will want to know about for their next adventure in the Kingdom of Drangleic.

On NexusMods (as first reported by DSOGaming), you can find the page for Firelink Edition, a mod for the Scholar of the First Sin Dark Souls 2 release, which functions as a remastered and definitive edition of the game that was released in 2015.

This extensive and ambitious mod adds new visuals, custom lighting, items, enemy placements, and changes to progression, meaning if you install it, you’ll experience a very different game. Additionally, previously locked doors have been opened in some cases, while certain key items may have been relocated entirely.

The mod also introduces a variety of new elements, including new weapons, shields, and armor pieces, as well as two new Miracles for those who enjoy using magic.

This mod should particularly attract players who have completed the game multiple times since it offers a fresh experience while retaining that beloved FromSoftware formula that defines the series.

Dark Souls 2 Has Always Been Underrated

As previously mentioned, Dark Souls 2 is arguably the most divisive title among the three entries in the franchise. While it may not reach the same heights as its counterparts, it certainly receives an undeservedly negative reputation. The hitboxes can be inconsistent and the controls are not as precise, but this does not detract significantly from the enjoyment of gameplay.

If you’re modding Dark Souls 2 with the Firelink Edition anyway, you can also incorporate other mods that further refine your experience to the point where you might hardly recognize which entry in the series you are playing.
