Foreigner’s 1981 album 4 marked a significant turning point for the band.

The collaboration with producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange during the album’s sessions resulted in the British-American rock group achieving their first No. 1 record. It spent four weeks at the top and produced four Top 40 singles, including the now-classic “Urgent,” “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” and “Juke Box Hero.” To date, it has sold over six million copies in the U.S. and has been certified platinum and gold in 10 additional countries.

Current Foreigner bassist Jeff Pilson praises the lineup that recorded 4, referring to them as “the real heroes” in the album’s story. “Mick Jones, Lou Gramm, Rick Wills, and Dennis Elliott’s musical achievement with this album has secured their place in the esteemed pantheon of classic rock artists,” he notes in the box set’s liner notes. “We are all so grateful to benefit from that achievement, as we get to enjoy this record for the rest of our listening years.”
