If you’re looking to play games at no additional cost, you’ll most often need a subscription like PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass, so it’s always nice when we get a free game with no membership of any kind required. That’s the case right now, as fans are urging everyone to check out a “phenomenal” new RPG on PS5 right now.
Over on Reddit, a user named yotam5434 posted, “The dq7 demo is phenomenal play it,” and it’s filled with comments agreeing with this sentiment. The demo of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is, of course, 100% free to download and is available on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, PC, and Windows.
This “Phenomenal” Free Download Is Available Now On PlayStation
It seems like everyone is enjoying their time with the DQ7 remake demo. “This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen,” wrote one user. “Amazing. Instant buy,” wrote another. “Never played it before, the music is phenomenal,” reads another comment. From pouring over the comments, the music and design seem to be highlights for just about everyone.
And it’s true — Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is awesome. I’m a huge Dragon Quest fan, so I spent my time yesterday evening playing through it, and it takes the vibe of the original PS1 version and mixes it with QoL improvements similar to what was in the 3DS remake. Depending on how you play, expect to spend anywhere from 3–5 hours with the demo, which is a considerable chunk of time (even if it’s just a drop into the ocean that is DQ7‘s story).
You Don’t Need PlayStation Plus To Check It Out
I went through the demo on Switch 2 and then started checking it out on PS5 (re: huge DQ fan). It looks great on both those consoles. If you’re playing it on PS5, you don’t need PS Plus to check out the demo. The same goes for Xbox: no Game Pass is required. No NSO for Switch either. It’s just a nice, free demo to try.
And you definitely should. Dragon Quest 7 has been a somewhat controversial entry in the franchise, from its characters to the pacing of its main story, but I’ve enjoyed it on past systems and look forward to seeing what all DQ7 Reimagined has to offer. Based on the demo, “phenomenal” is pretty much the perfect word for it. So, go and download it, and don’t worry about needing a membership to PlayStation Plus or anywhere else.
