If you’ve ever browsed free games on Steam, you might have come across a lot of gacha titles or experiences filled to the brim with microtransactions. But every so often, a fully playable, entirely free game graces the storefront.
That’s the case with this gem on Steam, which was just released this month and has positive user reviews, but isn’t getting nearly enough love.
Pigment jest uroczy i całkowicie darmowy
To krótka, elegancka przygoda
When a game uses the phrase “hand-drawn platformer,” my head turns immediately. Pigment is a lovely little adventure that puts you in the yellow-tinted shoes of Huey, as you embark upon a quest to restore color to the world. You’ll do that through jumping around the environment and throwing paint projectiles about, as you literally color in the game’s universe.
Crafted by developer David Stears, Pigment has “one level and one boss,” with mechanics that focus on air mobility. Featuring multiple jumps and air dashes, the goal is to stay up in the air as often as possible as you traverse the game and eventually take on the final confrontation. It’s a perfect “rainy day afternoon” game, especially since it’s completely free.
Think of it like a demo of sorts from a smaller-scale developer. You really can’t beat free, especially when there’s no hidden charges or fees lurking beneath the surface. In this current era of gaming, an experience like that is rare, even for games that are essentially resumes for prospective developers.
Nie otrzymuje wystarczającej uwagi
Wystarczy poświęcić czas
As of the time of publication, Pigment hasn’t blown up. It only has a handful of reviews (all positive) so far, with some hoping that the developer will turn it into a fully-fledged game. Given how charming the visuals are and the focus on aerial movement, I’d play a full retail version of this in a heartbeat.
Platformers in particular have it rough when it comes to standing out above the crowd. Around 10 years ago, there was an explosion of them that flooded the market, bringing in all sorts of new takes and cute mascot characters into the fold. By my count, Huey from Pigment could stand right next to them. Personally, I’m always game for a cute-looking platformer, so I downloaded this one immediately.
It can be incredibly hard to stand out on Steam, especially in an era where hundreds of games are competing for eyeballs each month. But if you have some spare time and enjoy platformers, give Pigment a go. It’ll only ask for a bit of your time.
