Back in August, Collider partnered with Hulu to exclusively debut the official trailer for Season 13 of Futurama. Showcasing a whole new set of intergalactic adventures with the all-star voice cast of John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Maurice LaMarche, and more, the trailer began the near-month-long wait for the latest installment of Matt Groening‘s beloved sci-fi comedy series. Finally, on September 15, at 8 PM ET, the entirety of Season 13 dropped on Hulu to the viewing pleasure of millions.
“Futurama Season 13 isn’t trying to be the next great cartoon or comedy, but it does promise to fans that it will maintain the same fun and funny performances that make it great,” one critic wrote about the thirteenth season, with another saying, “The show may not still have the power to surprise us the way it did in its early days, but if it continues on the flight path Season 13 is charting, that could be just fine.” Well, “just fine” isn’t the sentiment shared by the all-important Hulu subscribers, who have awarded the season heaps of praise on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.
At the time of writing, Futurama Season 13 has earned an impressive 74% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. This is officially the highest-rated season by audiences since the series was successfully rebooted for an eleventh outing in 2023. Sadly, the score simply can’t scratch the eye-catching ratings earned by the early Futurama seasons, with Season 1 and 2’s 96% bettered only by Season 3’s 97%. From critics, several Futurama seasons have earned a perfect 100%.
What Is ‘Futurama’ Season 13 About?
“Bender is rampaging out of control! A volcano is about to explode! Fry confronts a rival for Leela’s love! And Dr. Zoidberg is rising up to heaven?! The excitement might be too much! You’ve been warned… it’s an all-new season of Futurama!” the official logline for Season 13 reads. With the threat of global extinction, Dr. Zoidberg getting chased by bears, a new romantic rival for Fry, and even more festive fun to be had, this season might not be an all-time classic for the series, but it happily reconfigures the downward trajectory the show seemed to be facing since it returned in 2023. With the show having already been renewed for more, the television world of tomorrow looks bright.
Futurama Season 13 is available to stream now on Hulu. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
