Game of Thrones Spin-Off Faces Off Against ‘The Pitt’ on Streaming

The critically acclaimed medical drama from HBO is competing with George R.R. Martin’s favorite Game of Thrones show at the top of streaming charts. As of now, The Pitt has reclaimed the #1 position on HBO Max global streaming charts, pushing A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms to #2. With only six episodes in the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, The Pitt is poised for a longer period of success. It didn’t even need to wait for the other show to conclude to regain its streaming dominance.

The Pitt features Noah Wyle as a doctor at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. The series was HBO’s first original medical drama and is widely regarded as one of the best shows HBO has ever produced. Season 1 garnered several Emmys, including Best Drama Series, and Season 2 currently boasts a 99% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. HBO Max head Casey Bloys recently confirmed that the third season, announced just before Season 2, will premiere next year around the same time as the first two seasons.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the second spin-off from Game of Thrones, following House of the Dragon. Set between the events of the flagship series and the Targaryen-focused spin-off, it tells a smaller story about Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg. Although A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has received widespread critical acclaim, some fans have criticized it for being quite different from its bloodier predecessors.

What Happened to Dr. Collins in ‘The Pitt’?

One of the most beloved characters from The Pitt Season 1 was Dr. Heather Collins, played by Tracy Ifeachor. It was reported last summer, while Season 2 was in production, that Ifeachor would not reprise her role as Dr. Collins, and the latest episode finally explained why. Dr. Whitaker informs a patient that Dr. Collins has taken another job in Portland. Fans had hoped that her romantic history with Dr. Robby would be explored in future seasons.

Check out The Pitt and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on HBO Max, and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage on these shows.
