How can new bands capture attention in today’s saturated music scene? It’s a significant challenge, yet the viral rap-rock phenomenon Silly Goose has successfully navigated this landscape, so we reached out to them for insights on their innovative strategies for gaining visibility.
Being a music enthusiast in the contemporary world presents unique hurdles, particularly for younger fans. They are faced with the daunting task of catching up on decades of legendary music while simultaneously trying to stay updated with an overwhelming influx of new releases—over 100 new rock and metal songs and numerous tour announcements each week. Both fans and bands face significant challenges in this relentless environment.
Many aspiring musicians may wish for a universal template to follow that guarantees a long-lasting and successful career in the music industry. While such models can offer valuable insights and form a solid foundation for initial decisions, the intangible factors are often elusive yet increasingly crucial for success.
What’s the key to standing out?
If you’re searching for a one-size-fits-all answer, you might be disappointed. There is no magic formula, but Silly Goose has demonstrated that a unique approach, unwavering determination, and a willingness to take risks can pave the way to success.
Effective Strategies for Gaining Visibility in the Music Industry
You may have come across videos of this Atlanta, Georgia-based group on your social media feeds, performing spontaneous shows in parking lots during major artist tours or even at local fast-food restaurants like Subway. However, the approach of Silly Goose is far from a mere gimmick; it is a genuine movement rooted in a DIY ethic that is central to their identity and will remain integral to their mission.
“Initially, we were just performing at local venues … entertaining family and friends or playing to a handful of attendees. Eventually, we grew weary of that scenario. We thought, ‘Forget that, let’s go to where the audience is,’” explained vocalist Jackson Foster. They established a mobile setup and began to cultivate a fanbase, driven by word-of-mouth about their guerrilla-style performances.
“We observed that our approach was gaining traction. During our first tour, we followed Highly Suspect for about a month… At the start of that tour, we were completely broke. I charged all the gas on my credit card, and we sold T-shirts on the street, hoping to recoup our expenses,” he shared.

“Whether you embrace it or not, the internet is an invaluable resource that exists. If you’re launching a band in 2025, leveraging it to your benefit is essential,” emphasized guitarist Ian Binion.
“The key is to keep your online content authentic and steer clear of overly processed material aimed solely at gaining clicks. It’s important to create genuine experiences; go out into the streets, film yourself having a great time, and host real parties. This authenticity allows you to maintain your integrity, and you can rest easy knowing it doesn’t feel manipulative. There are countless ways to discover what authenticity means for you,” he concluded.
Strategies for Sustaining a Thriving Fanbase
It’s vital to have a comprehensive plan that transcends merely attracting attention.
Forester emphasizes the necessity of having quality music to support any attention you generate if you aspire for longevity and consistent growth in your career. “The guerrilla approach is fantastic; we love its creativity and spontaneity, but it’s merely the first step in capturing the audience’s attention,” the vocalist stated.
It is the music itself that retains fans once they discover you, perhaps through more viral methods.
“The DIY mentality of Silly Goose will always be a core part of who we are,” Forester added. “Ultimately, we are in this for the joy of making music, having fun, working hard, and achieving our goals.”
This means continually focusing on creating new music and striving to make it “the best it can possibly be.”

In other parts of the interview, Silly Goose discusses how they quickly set up their pop-up events and, more crucially, how they make their exit before facing any repercussions. However, they don’t have a flawless record in this area—they’ve encountered some legal challenges as a result of their unconventional approach.
The band’s upcoming album, Keys to the City, was produced by the renowned Josh Wilbur (known for his work with Korn, Lamb of God, Trivium, Avenged Sevenfold, and others), whom Jackson referred to as a “dream producer.”
