Gibbs Romance With Diane Tops Lala’s in NCIS: Origins Season 2

NCIS: Origins season 2 already features a strong romantic pair that surpasses the questionable relationship between Gibbs and Lala. While the NCIS spinoff has not heavily focused on romantic personal relationships, Gibbs and Lala’s connection has been a popular subplot throughout season 1. Nevertheless, NCIS: Origins season 2 presents a more compelling romance.

The NCIS prequel aims to explore Gibbs’ life in the years following the tragic loss of his wife and daughter. NCIS: Origins season 1 closely examined the tension between Gibbs and Lala, his partner at NIS. However, the season 1 finale introduced Gibbs’ ex-wife, Diane, an important yet often overlooked character who overshadows any potential romance between Gibbs and Lala.

Gibbs Has A Stronger Connection With Diane Than Lala

In the final moments of the NCIS: Origins season 1 finale, Gibbs encountered his ex-wife Diane, a real estate agent who would later become Gibbs’ second wife after Shannon. From their initial meeting, Gibbs and Diane exhibited immediate and palpable chemistry. Although they were only together briefly, Diane’s compliment about Gibbs’ eyes highlighted their strong connection.

In contrast, Gibbs and Lala do not share that same energy. While there is certainly romantic tension between them, particularly evident in the undercover case in NCIS: Origins episode 6 or their near kiss in the finale, Gibbs and Lala’s connection feels different. They may find each other attractive, but they lack essential chemistry.

Moreover, Gibbs and Lala are caught in a will-they-won’t-they relationship, even after nearly a year of working together. This contrasts with Gibbs and Diane, whose chemistry was immediate. These factors indicate that Gibbs has a stronger bond with Diane. Although he may feel romantic tension with both women, Diane’s allure is more powerful.

NCIS: Origins Can Finally Highlight Gibbs and Diane’s Early Beginnings

With Diane now introduced in the season 1 finale, she could play a larger role in NCIS: Origins season 2. This season can also finally showcase the early beginnings of Gibbs and Diane’s relationship. From what we know in NCIS, they started as a sweet couple but Diane always felt she could not measure up to Shannon.

This resulted in a relatively short marriage for Gibbs and Diane. However, Diane remained an important figure in Gibbs’ life, appearing throughout various episodes of NCIS. While NCIS depicted their current relationship, NCIS: Origins has the opportunity to delve deeper into how they became a couple. This exploration would also serve as a fitting tribute to Diane following her death in season 12 of NCIS.
