The iconic hard rock and alternative metal band Godsmack has recently wrapped up their extensive world tour in 2025. According to lead vocalist Sully Erna, the band is now entering a significant phase of rest, as they will be taking a complete year off from touring and public performances.
Insights from Sully Erna on Godsmack’s Year-Long Break and Their Recent Popularity Surge
In a thought-provoking interview with the Hungarian magazine HammerWorld, Sully Erna reflected on both his personal journey and the band’s remarkable 30-year history. He shared insights into what the future holds for him and Godsmack, mentioning that after their successful European tour, they plan to take a full year off.
When asked about his future plans during this hiatus, Erna stated:
“I’ll probably start something new during that time—I just don’t know what yet. I usually work on Godsmack for a certain amount of time, and then when we take a break, I shift to solo projects. I think I might do that again. This year is a bit of a mystery, but I’ve started receiving offers to focus on TV and film. . . . I might end up writing music for movies or even acting again. . . . I’m definitely exploring other things besides Godsmack to keep me occupied while we figure out what’s next for the band. Right now, I honestly don’t know.
Erna also expressed that despite the band’s extensive history and recent lineup modifications, Godsmack is arguably experiencing a peak in their popularity. He noted:
“What I do know is there’s been a resurgence of Godsmack. When we come out now, we’re playing to bigger and bigger audiences,” emphasizing the growing interest in the band.
During their recent performance in Sofia, Bulgaria, they sold out in just two days, drawing a crowd of over 13,000. Erna remarked on the significant turnout in Romania and Poland, stating that a new generation of fans is now discovering their music. Many young fans attend their concerts alongside their parents, showcasing the band’s enduring legacy. “We’ve survived so much over the years, gone through tough times, and we’re still here. We’re still relevant and creating exceptional music,” he added.
The continued interest in their music translates to packed shows, and Erna expressed his satisfaction with the band’s growth. “It’s wonderful to return to the stage without any promotional obligations,” he noted. “We’re not pushing a new record right now; we’re simply celebrating our legacy and performing our greatest hits out of pure love for the music. We’re back in the driver’s seat, free from the constraints of record labels and management. Godsmack is back in control, and that truly feels like the greatest gift.”
The last show of the tour took place at the PreZero Arena in Gliwice, Poland, on March 27, marking an end to their live performances for the foreseeable future. Additionally, fans are aware that Godsmack’s latest album, released in 2023, titled Lighting Up the Sky, was promoted as their final studio album, indicating a significant shift in their career trajectory.
It appears that Godsmack is indeed entering a prolonged period of hiatus from touring engagements.

Current Updates and Developments in the Godsmack Camp
Recently, Godsmack’s achievements and strategic decisions come on the heels of significant lineup changes, with former drummer Shannon Larkin and lead guitarist Tony Rambola departing the band earlier this year. Throughout the band’s recent tour, Sully Erna and bassist Robbie Merrill were joined by talented drummer Will Hunt and guitarist Sam Koltun.
In March 2025, Erna stated: “All I can tell you right now is that the band is in good health, we’re in good spirits, but there’s going to be a little bit of a different visual for everybody. . . . Tony and Shannon have some personal issues to address, and they’re not with us. So we have a couple of guest musicians playing with us who are phenomenal.”
The following month, Loudwire reported on Godsmack’s official announcement regarding Larkin and Rambola’s departure.
In this announcement, the band shared some “bittersweet news . . . regarding a significant change in our journey together.” They recognized Rambola and Larkin as “two of our most cherished members” and expressed that they left Godsmack “on good terms” and “for no other reason than to fulfill their desire to live a more simple and quiet life away from the demands of touring.”

While Rambola has remained private about his future endeavors, Larkin recently performed with the reunited band Snot at Welcome to Rockville earlier this month. This appearance was highlighted as one of the “6 Big Things That Happened at Welcome to Rockville 2025,” where Larkin stepped in for Jamie Miller, who was unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts with Bad Religion in Spain.
