The Mortician: What Happened to Jerry Sconce & Laurieanne Lamb?

HBO’s latest true-crime offering, The Mortician, unpacked one of the most bizarre and shocking cases ever witnessed in the funeral industry, where the infamous David Sconce used their family-run mortuary for some practices that can only be described as inhuman.

The court also punished the mortician’s parents, Laurieanne Lamb and Jerry Sconce, when the case finally materialized. Both Laurieanne and Jerry Sconce served prison sentences.

What happened to Jerry Sconce from The Mortician?

As the case gained momentum and almost everything was exposed, David Sconce was identified as the primary perpetrator. The police arrested him for his inhumane practices with the dead, which included mass cremation and organ harvesting, among many others.

David Sconce was the son of Jerry Sconce and Laurieanne Lamb, whose father, Charles F. Lamb, founded the Lamb Funeral Home. Laurieanne and Jerry primarily ran the mortuary while David Sconce ran the cremations.

As they were a part of an operation where so many unethical practices had taken place, both Laurieanne Lamb and Jerry Sconce also went to trial. In their trial, the couple pleaded innocence and blamed all of it on David. Edward A. Rucker, their lawyer, also emphasized the blame on David.

However, the jury did not believe that both of them were completely innocent. In April 1995, the court allegedly found Jerry guilty of one count of conspiracy to remove parts and one count of misappropriation of $100,000 in trust account money. The judge sentenced him to three years and eight months in prison. Jerry passed away in 2019 at the age of 85. He served his full term in prison.

Where is Laurieanne Lamb from The Mortician now?

Along with her husband, the court also found Laurieanne Lamb guilty of unlawfully authorizing the removal of eyes, hearts, lungs, and brains from bodies before cremation, as well as three counts of forging customer signatures on organ donor and cremation authorization forms.

The court sentenced her to three years and eight months in prison as well. She got out of prison and is now leading a private life away from the spotlight. She refused to participate in The Mortician.

The Mortician is available for streaming on Max.
