Patrick Muldoon has officially confirmed his return as Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives.
In a new Instagram video shared by @dayspeacock, Muldoon is seen wandering the fictional streets of Salem, teasing his comeback with the caption, “Who is that wandering around Salem…and why?!” In the short clip, Muldoon states, “It’s good to be back,” referencing his long-running role on the show.
Muldoon first originated the character of Austin Reed in 1992. Over the years, the role has alternated between him and actor Austin Peck. Muldoon played Austin until 1995, while Peck stepped in from 1995 to 2002 and again from 2005 to 2006. Muldoon later reprised the role from 2011 to 2012, and again in the 2021 limited series Beyond Salem.
Austin’s absence from Carrie’s recent appearance in Salem had raised questions among viewers. During an episode mourning John Black, Carrie (played by Christie Clark) explained that Austin missed the gathering to attend their son Noah’s graduation. Writers previously depicted their relationship as strained during Beyond Salem, prompting speculation about the state of their marriage.
