Watch: Reese Witherspoon Shares Exciting ‘Legally Blonde’ Prequel Announcement

Nobody said orange is the new pink in these new photos of the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel.

Indeed, filming on the series, Elle, is well underway on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. The behind-the-scenes shots from May 1 show star Lexi Minetree as a young Elle Woods—in a pink dress, of course—who is accompanied by three friends in colorful outfits while on a shopping trip. The girls are all carrying shopping bags from a variety of luxury brands.

And while Reese Witherspoon has passed the baton of the Young and the Restless-loving future attorney to Lexi for the series, she is still very much involved in the project, serving as executive producer through her company Hello Sunshine.

"Harvard was hard. High School was harder. Our new series, Elle, is now in production!" Reese shared on her Instagram April 2. "Couldn't be more excited to introduce you all to @leximinetree as Elle Woods."

In fact, Reese—who will reprise the character in a third film co-written by Mindy Kaling—was just the person to reveal Lexi's casting after a global casting call to the world.

"Your audition tape was amazing, as we talked about, and we had to make a really hard decision the other day," the Oscar winner told Lexi, 23, in the video shared to Instagram in February. "We wanted to tell you in person because you've just worked really hard, and we just wanted to tell you that you don't have to audition anymore because you got the part. You're Elle Woods!"

The upcoming Prime Video series, which has yet to set a release date, will follow Elle Woods through her high school years—years before the events of the 2001 film, which focused on Elle's journey to Harvard Law School. And while it will reflect her younger years, it will be the same character fans know and love.

"Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity in ways that only our beloved Elle could do," Reese said in a May 2024 press release. "What could be better than that?!"
