Times highlighted a particularly heartwarming moment when Green Day invited a fan on stage to perform “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).” The publication described the fan as “confident,” dressed in a black tank top and leather trousers, complete with a sparkling belt buckle that caught the stage lights beautifully. As the fan approached the stage, Armstrong remarked, “Oh, he’s handsome,” and after sharing his guitar strap with the fan, the audience was treated to an engaging display as the fan strummed along while Armstrong sang.

However, an unexpected incident occurred when the stunning fireworks display during their closing song, “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life),” inadvertently ignited a palm tree in the artist section nearby. According to The Express Tribune, there is still uncertainty about whether anyone was harmed, but firefighters responded swiftly to control the fire. One concertgoer shared a video of the chaos on X, expressing shock, “A firework just exploded next to me and all my friends at Coachella. I can’t hear out of my right ear, multiple people hurt. That was insane, I thought it was a terrorist attack.”

Furthermore, The Express Tribune reported that event organizers promptly instructed attendees to evacuate the area to ensure safety.

Green Day’s performance was just one highlight for Billie Joe Armstrong at Coachella, as he also had the opportunity to join the legendary Go-Go’s on stage to perform “Head Over Heels” from their 1984 album Talk Show on April 11. This event marked only the second show for the new wave/post-punk band since 2022, and as Ultimate Classic Rock noted, it took place near the middle of their set, which heavily featured their multiplatinum 1981 debut, Beauty and the Beat.
