Grand Theft Auto 6‘s November 19 release is the date everyone is looking forward to, but we now have confirmation that GTA 6 fans should start paying attention before then. Parent company Take-Two Interactive has dropped several interesting bits of information during an earnings call today, and one suggests that GTA 6 will be hitting its stride soon.
On X, Geoff Keighley shared Take-Two Interactive’s reveal that launch marketing for GTA 6 will begin this summer. While the first trailer for GTA 6 appeared in 2023, marketing materials have been few and far-between since. A full-scale campaign will presumably bring new trailers, gameplay footage, and deeper dives into the characters and story.
Grand Theft Auto 6 Will Go All-In This Summer
The Marketing Push Is Almost Here
Earnings reports aren’t always the most exciting updates in the gaming community, but Take-Two is always worth a look. The newest update confirmed that GTA 6 is still on track for its November 19 release, a date that has struggled to inspire confidence after two previous delays. Committing to a summer marketing push is a further sign of confidence in that date.
Borderlands fans, on the other hand, are getting the short end of the stick. The earnings report also reveals that Borderlands 4 has put the development of its planned Switch 2 port on pause, and it’s not clear if 2K Games plans to resume work on the port in the foreseeable future.
There’s Still A Ways To Go
Patience Is Key
It’s exciting to know that the marketing storm should start this summer, but that also means we’ll likely have a few more dry months before things begin in earnest. On the bright side, a lack of GTA 6 marketing gives other games more of a chance to shine, and getting a window for when the marketing will start makes it easier for other studios to schedule accordingly. Take-Two’s investor presentation highlights the massive attention received by previous GTA 6 trailers, citing the second trailer’s cross-platform debut as “the biggest video launch of all time.
The rest of the material shared by Take-Two today is mostly numbers — impressive numbers, generally speaking, but not the type of information that most GTA fans are looking for. Of minor interest, Take-Two has provided a new update on the total lifetime sales of Grand Theft Auto 5, which has now crossed 225 million copies sold.
For now, the earnings report information is all that we’re likely to get until summer, when the storm of Grand Theft Auto 6 will start in earnest.
