Renowned guitarist Jen Majura, who has graced the stages with well-known bands such as Equilibrium, Knorkator, and Evanescence, has officially announced her decision to “step away” from the music industry. This significant move comes after a distinguished career that has seen her share her talent with audiences worldwide.
On June 10, Majura took to her Instagram account to share her plans for leaving the music industry. In her heartfelt message, she explained that this decision came after a period of careful consideration and reflection on the current state of the music industry, the emerging AI technologies, and the transformations occurring in society. This introspection led her to a pivotal choice regarding her career.
In her announcement, Majura expressed, “Instead of wasting another year of my life constantly hoping for new energy, drive, and creativity, I’ve reached a point in my life where I can confidently lean back in peace.” She reflected on her past, stating, “While time allowed me, I was able to collect an amazing amount of beautiful experiences, tours, shows, travels, and moments! I am grateful for every bit of that, but the world has changed. I can confidently make up my mind to stop.” This candid sentiment resonates with many artists facing similar crossroads in their careers.
Majura elaborated further, stating, “I am not saying that I will never create any music again, whether recorded or live – but for now, I feel there are healthier and better things to fill my life with good vibes and not deal with the overwhelming amount of ridiculousness that comes with the music industry nowadays. I just can’t identify with today’s attitude and values anymore.” This reflection highlights the struggles many artists encounter within the ever-evolving landscape of the music industry.
As she continued, Majura extended her well wishes to “all the ambitious and remaining ‘creators’, young and old.” In a generous gesture, she offered her fans four singles as a parting gift. This act not only showcases her appreciation for her supporters but also symbolizes her continued connection to the music community even as she steps away.
“As a final musical endeavor, I want to share four tracks with you,” she stated. “These songs were written over a decade ago together with the talented guitarist Dennis Hormes. While cleaning out old files on my computer, I rediscovered these demo recordings and felt they were too good to keep to myself.” This statement reinforces her desire to maintain a musical connection while exploring new paths in life.
A passionate musician from a young age, Majura has been professionally active since 2000, showcasing her skills as both a guitarist and bassist in notable bands such as Equilibrium, Knorkator, and Black Thunder Ladies. She also has several solo albums to her credit. Her extensive experience in the music industry has shaped her artistry and approach to performance.
Majura gained widespread recognition in 2015 when she stepped in for Terry Balsamo as the lead guitarist of the acclaimed rock band Evanescence. She contributed to the band’s two most recent albums, 2017’s Synthesis and 2021’s The Bitter Truth. However, her departure from the group was announced in May 2022, marking the end of a significant chapter in her career.
“It has been a very special chapter in the band with our dear friend Jen Majura, but we have decided it’s time to go our separate ways,” the band stated at the time of her exit. “We will always love her and support her and can’t wait to see what she does next! We are so grateful for the good times and great music we made all around the world together.” This heartfelt message underscores the strong bond and mutual respect between Majura and the band.
After leaving Evanescence, Majura co-founded a crossover metal band called How We End. Additionally, she showcased her vocal talents on the track “Deep Inside,” from the album Invisible Signs, created by former Dream Theater drummer Mike Mangini. Her ongoing musical endeavors reflect her versatility and passion for creativity in various musical genres.
