When asked about her most thrilling stunt experience in The Old Guard 2, the acclaimed Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron responds without hesitation, showcasing her passion for action and adventure.

“The scene with the helicopter was particularly exhilarating,” she shared at the recent Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Program Block Party fundraiser held in Los Angeles. “We filmed it towards the end of production, and in that moment, I thought to myself, ‘If I can successfully pull this off, I might be ready to retire from stunts altogether.’ However, that sentiment didn’t last very long. The experience was complex and required a significant mental focus. The initial weeks involved sitting down with the pilot to build trust and practicing slow movements. But ultimately, I found myself hanging off a helicopter, so who cares about that initial fear?”

While performing the stunt, Theron recalled the thrill of hanging in mid-air, thinking, “I’ll never stop telling people that I hung off a helicopter.” This unforgettable moment highlights her dedication to pushing the boundaries of her craft and embracing the adrenaline rush that comes with such demanding physical challenges.

The film, directed by Victoria Mahoney, is the second installment in the Netflix adaptation of Greg Rucka’s acclaimed comic book series. The story follows a group of immortals, including Theron alongside KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Henry Golding, as they strive to save humanity from two of their own, the malevolent Discord (played by franchise newcomer Uma Thurman) and Quỳnh (portrayed by Veronica Ngô).

Excitingly, a third film may be on the horizon, as the second movie concludes with a dramatic cliffhanger. In fact, producer Marc Evans mentioned in May 2023, “The ending of No. 2 essentially sets up the need for No. 3, which is very exciting for me.” This anticipation has fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter in this thrilling saga.

For the time being, Theron, who also serves as a producer on the franchise, stated, “We’re planning to take a break, enjoy some time off, and then we’ll regroup to decide our next steps.” This approach allows the team to recharge before diving back into the creative process.

Looking ahead, Theron is set to begin filming Christopher Nolan’s upcoming project titled The Odyssey. She also expressed her aspirations to direct in the future, saying, “I’ve always had that desire, but with young children, directing requires immense time and focus… I want my kids to have time with me while they’re growing up.”
