Acclaimed CCM artist Brandon Lake recently delivered a delightful surprise to his celebrated collaborator Jelly Roll regarding their popular joint track, “Hard Fought Hallelujah.” This moment not only highlights their partnership but also showcases the impact of their music on audiences.
In an engaging video shared via Instagram on June 20, Lake presented Jelly Roll with a prestigious plaque celebrating the remarkable achievement of “Hard Fought Hallelujah” being certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), a significant milestone that denotes sales exceeding one million units. This recognition speaks volumes about the song’s widespread appeal and the dedication of both artists.
The track is prominently featured on Lake‘s album, King of Hearts, which was released on June 13. Impressively, the song achieved its platinum certification even before the album hit the market, highlighting the anticipation and excitement surrounding this collaboration.
In the heartfelt video, Jelly Roll expresses his genuine surprise and joy, stating, “We were just talking about this like six months ago,” further emphasizing the journey they have taken together. He adds, “This might be my favorite plaque I’ve ever had,” reflecting the personal significance of this accomplishment in his career.
Their collaborative rendition of “Hard Fought Hallelujah” not only made waves on the Billboard charts, where it broke into the top 40 of the all-genre Hot 100, but also soared to a remarkable position within the top 15 on the Hot Country Songs chart, demonstrating its broad appeal across multiple genres and audiences.
“I released [the solo version of] this song, and then I felt like, ‘This is too special to not share this song with somebody,’” Lake shared with Billboard about his decision to collaborate with Jelly Roll. He reflected on the song’s emotional lyrics, stating, “I was like, ‘Man, I think Jelly Roll would resonate with the story of this song.’” His admiration for Jelly Roll’s personal journey and the challenges he has faced inspired Lake to reach out. He recalls being deeply moved while watching Jelly Roll perform “Believe” with Brooks & Dunn [at the 2024 CMA Awards] and how it fueled his desire to collaborate.
“We hopped on the phone, and we didn’t talk music for the first hour. We just instantly became like brothers and talked about life, parenting, touring, family. It was a real friendship off the bat,” Lake continued, highlighting the genuine connection they formed. “There’s a reason why he is on top of the world right now, and it’s not just because his songs are amazing — it’s because he’s amazing,” he added, underscoring the mutual respect and admiration that exists between these two talented artists.
