The brand-new HBO Wizarding World has just revealed its exciting first look. Shared via social media and viewable below, Dominic McLaughlin‘s titular Boy Who Lived is seen wearing the red and gold of Gryffindor on a cloak featuring his name and number, holding his Nimbus 2000, and ready to take to the Quidditch pitch, possibly for the first time. In front of him, a group of students is taking to the stands, waving flags from their respective houses. The caption on the post simply states, “Tomorrow,” followed by a lightning bolt, indicating that we will get our biggest glimpse yet at the new series in just 24 hours.
The upcoming HBO adaptation of all seven Harry Potter novels is set to debut in early 2027 and has already added several exciting names to the cast. This includes Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, along with recent additions Orson Matthews as Oliver Wood, Asha Soetan as Angelina Johnson, Eire Farrell as Katie Bell, D’Angelou Osei-Kissiedu as Graham Montague, Dylan Heath as Adrian Pucey, Cornelius Brandreth as Terence Higgs, and many more.
One casting addition yet to be confirmed is Lord Voldemort, whose full-bodied appearance in the series is likely not until Season 4, giving the casting team ample time. Currently, the supposed front-runner for the role is Paul Bettany, known for his work in the MCU, who is reported to be HBO’s preferred candidate to portray He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. In a recent interview, Bettany stated, “I haven’t heard anything about that [playing Voldemort] …. I’m a big fan of the [Harry Potter] IP, and I’m a big fan of HBO, but nobody has called me up about that.”

Controversy Surrounds ‘Harry Potter’
The upcoming series is surrounded by ongoing controversy due to consistent comments made by the magical franchise’s creator, J.K. Rowling. These remarks have cast a shadow over production and prompted many in the cast and former stars from the film series to speak out.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the only controversy surrounding the series. Actor Essiedu, who portrays Snape, has admitted he has received death threats due to his skin color in response to his casting. Essiedu shared, “I’ve been told, ‘Quit or I’ll murder you.’ The reality is that if I look at Instagram I will see somebody saying, ‘I’m going to come to your house and kill you.’ While I hope I’ll be okay, nobody should have to face this for doing their job.”
