Heart’s Ann Wilson: Tour Update on Her Wheelchair and Sling Use

During a recent episode of her podcast, After Dinner Thinks With Ann Wilson, Ann Wilson clarified that the wheelchair and arm sling she has been using on Heart’s current tour are not related to her previous battle with cancer. Instead, she humorously attributed her situation to her own clumsiness, revealing that she had a significant fall in a parking lot just five days before the tour kicked off. This unfortunate incident resulted in her elbow being fractured in three places, necessitating surgical intervention where it was pinned back together with screws, showcasing the physical toll of unexpected accidents.

Despite the complications that arose from her injury, Heart has resumed touring after a brief hiatus due to Wilson needing preventative chemotherapy. They were forced to cut their original 2024 tour plans short to prioritize her health. Fortunately, Wilson has successfully recovered and the band made a triumphant return to the stage last weekend with a performance in Las Vegas, signaling a positive comeback.

Addressing her current injury, Wilson stated, “The pain level is still significant, making it difficult to remove the sling.” She explained her choice to remain seated during performances, allowing her to focus entirely on her singing without the added challenge of maintaining her balance and the risk of falling. This decision reflects her commitment to delivering a powerful performance despite her physical limitations.

Wilson also expressed her surprise at how some fans perceive her situation. She noted that many view her use of the sling as an indication of vulnerability, often eliciting pity instead of understanding. “We don’t have to associate it with negativity,” she emphasized. “It’s merely a tool to help me, and I am confident that I will be up and moving again soon.” Her perspective highlights the importance of resilience and positivity in the face of challenges.
