In an exciting development for horror enthusiasts, last year, Charles Band’s production company, Full Moon, unveiled a bold new label named Pulp Noir. This innovative label is dedicated to producing a unique array of films that delve into the realms of “edgier, weirder, darker horror and dark fantasy.” Two films under the Pulp Noir banner, Quadrant and Death Streamer, have successfully completed their production phases. Notably, while these films were originally launched in vibrant color, all Pulp Noir films are set to receive striking black & white releases, giving fans the option to enjoy both color and noir versions of Quadrant and Death Streamer on the Full Moon Features streaming platform. In anticipation of more thrilling Pulp Noir projects, Band is revisiting the extensive Full Moon library to transform select classic films into noir-style versions.
This captivating noir series, projected to include at least a dozen films, kicked off with a black & white adaptation of the 1984 sci-fi thriller and holiday favorite, Trancers. Following this, fans can look forward to noir renditions of various films, including the 1997 creature feature The Creeps, the 2007 movie The Haunted Casino (also known as Dead Man’s Hand), the 2012 “insane comedy chiller” The Dead Want Women, the 2004 sci-fi horror film Dr. Moreau’s House of Pain, and the 2009 horror entry Skull Heads. Currently, audiences can enjoy Hideous Noir, a striking black & white version of the 1997 horror film directed by the visionary Charles Band. For those eager to dive into this unique cinematic experience, the trailer is embedded above, and the full film is accessible for viewing on YouTube.
Written by Neal Marshal Stevens under the pseudonym Benjamin Carr, Hideous has earned a reputation as a “spastic, sexy mad science and monster mash masterpiece.” The film’s engaging synopsis describes the story: Dr. Lorca, an eccentric collector of biological oddities, has just “acquired” his most prized specimen: a horrifying mutant born from toxic sewage. However, the creature’s rightful owner is determined to reclaim it. This clash among collectors is abruptly interrupted as the FBI enters the fray, and the grotesque specimen comes to life, animating a furious, oozing horde of ferocious freaks!
The film features a talented cast, including Jacqueline Lovell (notable for her role in Trophy Heads), Michael Citriniti (Ravenwolf Towers), Mel Johnson Jr. (Total Recall), Rhonda Griffin (The Creeps), Tracie May-Wagner (Shattered Lies), Jerry O’Donnell (Alias), Mircea Constantinescu (They’re Watching), Alexandru Agarici (Dark Angel: The Ascent), and Andrew Johnston. This eclectic ensemble brings a range of characters to life, enhancing the film’s engaging narrative.
