The new Highlander has stayed pretty quiet for a while, which is part of why this latest update feels so interesting. Fans already knew Chad Stahelski’s reboot wasn’t going to be a simple copy-and-paste version of the 1986 cult favorite, but now one of the movie’s stars has made that even clearer. And this time, the change isn’t about Connor MacLeod or the bigger immortal mythology. It’s about one of the original film’s most important human characters.
Siobhán Cullen, who’s currently filming the movie in London, has confirmed that the remake’s version of Brenda will be “totally different” from the character played by Roxanne Hart in the original film. Speaking to Deadline, Cullen said she loved Hart’s performance and took “lots of inspiration” from it, but added, “our Brenda is totally different.” She went on to explain:
“We find her at a different time in her life. We find her getting into trouble and when she meets Connor on a pivotal night, as a mortal, she gets swept up in the world of immortals. Because she is mortal in this immortal work, she’s kind of the eyes of the audience because she is being introduced into this whole new world, which totally upends her whole understanding of humanity and time and what’s possible.”

Who Is Brenda in ‘Highlander’?
In the 1986 Highlander, Brenda was a New York forensics expert who became suspicious of Christopher Lambert’s Connor MacLeod as the story pulled her deeper into his world. The reboot is clearly taking a different path, giving the character a new entry point into the story and seemingly a more active role in the chaos.
While she didn’t reveal much about the plot, she said Stahelski’s take is “definitely one for the fans,” and teased that the action she’s seen so far has been “insane.” That lines up with what most people probably expected once the John Wick filmmaker got involved.
The full main cast of Highlander includes Henry Cavill as Connor MacLeod, Russell Crowe as Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, Dave Bautista as the Kurgan, Karen Gillan as Heather MacLeod, Djimon Hounsou as Sunda Kastagir, Jeremy Irons as the leader of the Watchers, Drew McIntyre as Angus MacLeod, Max Zhang, Marisa Abela, Cullen as Brenda, Jeon Jong-seo as Aris, Nassim Lyes, and Kevin McKidd.
