Adolescence director and co-creator Philip Barantini has finally addressed the possibility of making another season of the award-winning Netflix show. For his work on the Stephen Graham-led drama, Barantini won two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
What did director Philip Barantini say about Adolescence Season 2?
In a recent interview with Deadline, Barantini opened up about the potential future of Adolescence. Despite speculations about its second season, the British filmmaker clarified that there will be “no sequel” for the acclaimed Netflix drama. However, the creative team behind the show is eager to work together again on other projects.
“For me, it’s about ultimately working with good people, nice people,” Barantini said. “There is no sequel to this, but we as a collective want to continue to work together on multiple things. We captured lightning in a bottle in terms of how we shot it, but also the reach we had. That doesn’t mean every project going forward can’t have the same ethos.”
Adolescence was directed by Barantini from a screenplay written by Graham and Jack Thorne. The ensemble cast includes Graham as Eddie Miller, Ashley Walters as Bascombe, Erin Doherty as Briony Ariston, newcomer Owen Cooper as Jamie Miller, Faye Marsay as Misha Frank, Christine Tremarco as Manda Miller, Amelie Pease as Lisa Miller, Jo Hartley as Mrs. Fenumore, Mark Stanley as Paul Barlow, and Claudius Peters as Frank.
The miniseries was executive-produced by Graham, Barantini, Thorne, Dede Gardner, Brad Pitt, Carina Sposato, Nina Wolarsky, Emily Feller, Mark Herbert, Jeremy Kleiner, and Hannah Walters, with Jo Johnson set as a producer. Since its debut, the show has maintained a Certified Fresh score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.
