One of 2026’s early horror hits could have two sequels in the works, according to the film’s director.
Which horror movie is set to receive two sequels?
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Ian Tuason, who wrote and directed the A24 horror hit Undertone, discussed the film’s success and future. Tuason mentioned that he has more films planned, specifically stating he envisions “a trilogy in mind” for the story of Undertone, and that he and A24 are “working on” making that happen.
While it remains uncertain what a sequel to Undertone might involve, it likely wouldn’t feature star Nina Kiri. The conclusion of the first film appears to wrap up the narratives of Evy and Justin (Adam DiMarco), the podcasting duo that inadvertently summons a supernatural entity in the movie. Despite the uncertainties surrounding Undertone’s sequels, it seems the film has garnered enough success to pique A24’s interest.
Since its premiere, Undertone has performed well at the box office, grossing nearly $10 million against a budget of just $500,000. The movie has also received fairly positive reviews, praised for its tense atmosphere, sound design, and more.
“The host of a popular paranormal podcast becomes haunted by terrifying recordings mysteriously sent her way,” reads the official synopsis.
Undertone is written and directed by Canadian filmmaker Ian Tuason in his feature directorial debut. Kiri will be the only cast member appearing on-screen, while the rest of the cast will provide voice work. The movie features voices from Kris Holden-Ried (The Umbrella Academy) as Justin, Michèle Duquet (The Virgin Suicides) as Mama, Keana Lyn Bastidas (The Hardy Boys) as Jessa, Jeff Yung (The Shrouds) as Mike, among others.
