Robin Wright recently discussed her decision to leave the U.S. and move to the U.K. in an interview. While she did not address the current political situation in the country, she expressed her concerns about the environment in America. Conversely, she shared how her life feels different in the U.K. compared to when she lived in the U.S. Here are the details on what the House of Cards star said about relocating.
Robin Wright on why she moved to the UK
In a new profile with The Times U.K., Wright explained her reasons for moving from the U.S. to the U.K. She stated, “America is a s***show.” Explaining why she prefers the U.K., she added, “I love being in this country. There’s a freedom of self here. People are so kind. They’re living. They’re not in the car in traffic, panicked on a phone call, [or] eating a sandwich. That’s most of America. Everything’s rush, competition, and speed.”
She elaborated on how different her life is in her new home compared to America. Instead of waking up to the noise of neighbors’ home renovations, she wakes up to the sound of chirping birds. “Everyone’s building a huge house, and I’m just done with all that — I love the quiet. And I’ve met my person. Finally,” she explained.
For those unfamiliar, Wright is currently dating architect Henry Smith, and they live in a rented home by the English seaside. In the same interview, she revealed that she met her partner at a bar. Detailing their first encounter, she shared, “He goes, ‘No, it’s not my dog, it’s his dog.’ And Henry was standing at the bar, 6ft 2in, and he put his pint down, came over to me and grabbed my shoulders. He goes, ‘Who the f— are you?’ And I said, ‘Who the f— are you?’ And that was it.”
Wright is not the first celebrity to relocate; many others have also left the country for personal or political reasons. Notable figures include Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, Rosie O’Donnell, Courtney Love, and Eva Longoria, among others.
