Hulu Movie Sets New Viewership Record, Surpassing Prey

A new movie that recently arrived on Hulu has officially overtaken Prey‘s viewership record, becoming the streaming platform’s new best premiering film.

Which movie broke Prey’s viewership record?

Predator: Badlands, the next entry in the Predator franchise and also directed by Dan Trachtenberg, has de-throned Trachtenberg’s previous live-action Predator movie for the top spot on Hulu’s premiere list. The new movie, which released in theaters last year, debuted on Hulu this week to almost 9 million views across its first five days on the platform.

While Prey’s original premiere numbers were never reported, it seems like Badlands did well enough to be worthy of the designation. At the theaters, the movie was also a massive success, opening to a franchise record of $80 million globally ($40 million domestically) and finishing at $184.5 million.

“Set in the future on a deadly remote planet, the film follows Dek, a young Predator outcast from his clan, who finds an unlikely ally in Thia and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary,” reads the official synopsis.

Predator: Badlands was directed and produced by Dan Trachtenberg, who co-wrote the screenplay with Patrick Aison, based on characters created by Jim Thomas and John Thomas. This marks Trachtenberg’s third Predator project after previously helming the 2022 prequel Prey and the adult animated Disney+ movie Killers of Killers.

Badlands was led by Elle Fanning, as well as Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as Dek. It was produced by John Davis, Marc Toberoff, Ben Rosenblatt, and Brent O’Connor.
