The Indiana Hoosiers are the 2026 College Football Playoff champions after holding off the Miami Hurricanes in an epic showdown, completing a perfect 16-0 season!
The Crimson and Cream, led by Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza, jumped to a 10-0 lead in the first half. However, Carson Beck and the Canes fought back in the second half as both teams exchanged scores.
With IU leading 27-21 in the final two minutes, Beck had a chance to orchestrate a game-winning drive but threw an interception to Jamari Sharpe, securing the Hoosiers’ first title in school history.
Mendoza completed 16 of 27 passes for 186 yards, connecting with Omar Cooper Jr. five times for 71 yards and Charlie Becker four times for 65 yards. He also scored a crucial rushing touchdown.
The Miami quarterback recorded 232 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the losing effort, with Malachi Toney being his favorite target, amassing 122 yards and a score on ten receptions.
On the ground, Kaelon Black rushed for 79 yards for the new champions, while Roman Hemby added another 60 yards.
This victory was particularly sweet for Mendoza, who grew up in Miami and attempted to walk on for the Hurricanes in 2022; he made sure to highlight that the program declined his offer.
The Hoosiers already have five championship banners for basketball and now they are adding one for football.
