SPOILER ALERT: Details ahead for Season 13, Episode 4 of “The Masked Singer,” titled “Voices of Olympus: Unmasking of the Gods,” which aired on March 5 on Fox.
In a surprising twist, “Vanderpump Rules” star Scheana Shay was recently revealed as the latest celebrity participant unmasked on Fox’s popular music competition series “The Masked Singer.” Shay took off her mask to unveil her identity as the Bat during the thrilling themed night, “Voices of Olympus: Unmasking of the Gods.”
Despite the guesses from the panelists, no one guessed correctly who the Bat was, even though all the guesses came from the realm of reality television. Robin Thicke speculated it was Bethenny Frankel, while Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg thought it might be Larsa Pippen. Rita Ora initially named Heidi Montag before switching her guess to Frankel as well, and Ken Jeong believed it to be Lisa Rinna.
During her performance, Shay delivered a powerful rendition of “Coffee” by Sabrina Carpenter. In her clue package, she shared, “I’m becoming Bat because I’m a creature of the night, and a bit of a bat-ass. Like bats, I’m one of the most misunderstood creatures ever. I’ve been villainized endlessly and portrayed as a blood-sucking backstabber. To that, I say, ‘ew, get over it.’ I’m so not that bat. My true friends know I even have a heart of gold. I’ve just been surrounded by a bunch of lunatics, and for years, my words have been twisted upside down. I’m just out here partying and having the time of my life, girl.”
As the Bat, Shay joins fellow contestants Aubrey O’Day as the Ant, Oscar de la Hoya as the Fuzzy Peas, and Cedric the Entertainer as the Honey Pot who have also been unmasked in “The Masked Singer” Season 13.
Scheana Shay made her debut on Bravo’s “Vanderpump Rules” in 2013, becoming part of the original cast. Her television appearances extend beyond this, having featured in shows such as “90210,” “Victorious,” and “Jonas,” among others, showcasing her diverse talents in the entertainment industry.
The episode “Voices of Olympus: Unmasking of the Gods” kicked off with five new contestants from Group B, following the advancement of Group A winners Coral and Paparazzo to the next round in the previous week.
Returning this season are host Nick Cannon, alongside the panelists Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, Rita Ora, and Robin Thicke. Notably, Ora has returned for her third consecutive season, stepping in for Nicole Scherzinger.
A new addition to Season 13 is a mysterious masked character known as “Detective Lucky Duck,” who will appear throughout the season to provide clues and assist the panelists in uncovering the identities of the masked contestants. He made his debut in this episode, adding a fresh twist to the format.
Another exciting innovation this season is the introduction of the “Crack the Case” clue boxes, which reveal additional hints about the eliminated contestants. The Bat’s clue box included hoop earrings, with Shay stating, “Gold is part of every major life event I’ve had, including the debut of my first single.”
The themed episodes for “The Masked Singer” Season 13 include tributes to iconic franchises such as “Shrek” and “Ghostbusters,” alongside a special tribute to the Grand Ole Opry as it celebrates its centennial anniversary. Other themes will focus on the legendary Rat Pack and include exciting concepts like “Voices of Olympus: Unmasking of the Gods,” “Carnival,” “Boy Bands,” “Decades,” “Lucky 6 Speed Guessing,” “Clash of the Masks,” and the return of “Soundtrack of My Life.”
In Season 13, the masked contestants include Honey Pot, Space Ranger, Cherry Blossom, Coral, Fuzzy Peas, Ant, Paparazzo, Griffin, Boogie Woogie, Pearl, and Bat, with more entries to be announced as the season progresses.
Here’s a recap of the performances from Wednesday’s Episode 4, “Voices of Olympus: Unmasking of the Gods”:
Boogie Woogie, “The Masked Singer” (Michael Becker/Fox)
Meet Boogie Woogie: The Energetic Contestant
Song: “I Believe In a Thing Called Love,” by The Darkness
Panel guesses: Adam Lambert, Andy Samberg, Mika, Criss Angel
Boogie Woogie voiceover: “That’s me! Becoming Boogie Woogie feels like disco destiny. As a child, I would do anything to be the center of attention. Look at this guy; he’s truly stealing the spotlight. Back in the day, I had extravagant dreams of being a clown, so I taught myself how to juggle. Later, in high school, I shifted my focus to more serious aspirations of becoming a magician! I even entered a talent show and won! After graduation, the only job I could hustle was busking, which didn’t exactly pay the bills. It was more panic than disco. But deep down, I trusted that this was my calling because I believe in doing what you love. One moment can change everything, and now Apollo, the God of Music, has called me here to add “The Masked Singer” to my resume, right beneath magician and clown.”
Space Ranger, “The Masked Singer” (Michael Becker/Fox)
Discover Space Ranger: The Futuristic Contestant
Song: “Bad Blood,” by Taylor Swift
Panel guesses: Tracy Morgan, Floyd Mayweather, Marlon Wayans
Clue: “Taylor Swift is my homie. We go way back!” Clock on the belt.
Space Ranger voiceover: “Space Ranger is perfect because he’s futuristic and lives on his own planet, just like me! I’m thrilled for this mission because “The Masked Singer” has been on my bucket list for years. Throughout my childhood, I accumulated quite a few accomplishments, including winning gold medals and bringing home some serious hardware to wear around my neck. However, with all that success comes the haters. I know I’m not everyone’s cup of tea. That’s why I’m channeling Aries, the God of War, to put them in their place. Sometimes you just have to deal with some bad blood on your doorstep, and you’ve got to show everyone you’re worth the hype. I’m going for the gold again with a track from my bestie!”
Griffin, “The Masked Singer” (Michael Becker/Fox)
Introducing Griffin: The Legendary Contestant
Song: “Rewrite the Stars,” by Zac Efron and Zendaya
Panel guesses: Matthew Lillard, Freddie Prinze Jr., David Arquette
Clue: “The stage is my comfy place. I love it here. I feel so lucky.”
Griffin voiceover: “Becoming the Griffin! Half eagle, half lion—a truly legendary creature. I can relate to that because when you become a star, you’re treated like a god. Everyone wants a piece of you. When I skyrocketed to overnight success, I wasn’t prepared for the fandom and adoration. Little did I know this would immortalize me. I mean, a girl even took dirt off my car and said she’d take it home to her kids! But the truth is, I’m only human, and I was recently reminded of that. The future I saw in the stars was being rewritten. Now I realize this life is so precious, and I seize every opportunity that comes my way. Tonight, I’m channeling the energy of Hercules because my resilience has gotten me through. From here on out, I’m writing my own story.”
