If you enjoy The Boys, with its dark twist on the superhero genre and brilliant lead performance by Jack Quaid, you’re sure to love the action movie Novocaine, which stars Quaid as a man who can’t feel pain and uses his power to help rescue the love of his life. A simple premise led to great success for Quaid and co-stars Amber Midthunder and Jacob Batalon, as critics praised the film, awarding it an impressive, “certified fresh” 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Now, half a year since it first debuted on the big screen, Novocaine is still proving successful as it officially re-enters the ten most-streamed movies on Paramount+ in the US. Placing tenth at the time of writing, Dan Berk and Robert Olsen‘s Novocaine is part of an eye-catching selection of movies currently at the top of the Paramount+ charts. Ahead of Novocaine in position #9 is the second installment in the Scary Movie franchise, with the disastrous Smurfs at #8, and Blade II at #7. The Jeremy Renner-led fantasy flop Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is at #6, with Jason Statham‘s The Mechanic at #5, and Stans at #4. The first Scary Movie is at #3 ahead of Halloween, as the ever-popular Top Gun: Maverick takes the #2 spot, and the first Blade movie tops the charts. For anyone yet to see Novocaine, here’s a look at the movie’s synopsis:
“When the girl of his dreams (Amber Midthunder) is kidnapped, everyman Nate (Jack Quaid) turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected strength in his fight to get her back.”
How Did ‘Novocaine’ Perform at the Box Office?
Having already starred alongside Sophie Thatcher in Companion earlier in the year, Quaid cemented his strong 2025 run when Novocaine was released to great acclaim. But did the positive reception translate into financial success? Sadly, the answer is no, as Novocaine became one of many early 2025 releases to fall into a drop in public theatrical interest. With a reported budget of $18 million, Novocaine failed to reach the all-important $36 million mark, earning a global haul of just $33.5 million. Split between a domestic total of $19.9 million and a further $13.6 million from overseas markets, the film sits at #67 in the list of highest-grossing movies of 2025.
Novocaine is streaming now on Paramount+.
