Hours after Jalen Carter spat on Dak Prescott, the Eagles star expressed regret for his actions, labeling them “a mistake.”
The incident occurred shortly after the beginning of Philadelphia’s season opener against the Cowboys, as Carter exchanged words with Dallas’ quarterback.
Cameras captured the moment when the Philadelphia defensive tackle spat on Dak’s chest, leading to his ejection from the game after a referee witnessed it.
The Eagles missed his presence significantly but managed to secure a 24-20 victory; afterward, the big defensive tackle acknowledged that he let down his teammates and fans.
“It was a mistake that happened on my side,” Carter stated. “It just won’t happen again.”
Carter refrained from commenting on whether he was provoked, although it appeared that Prescott may have spat first.
The NBC broadcast noted that the quarterback had directed some saliva towards Carter before their confrontation.
For his part, Dak admitted to spitting but clarified that it was not directed at Carter, explaining this to Carter during their altercation.
“When I stepped through, I actually said things like, ‘Why the hell — excuse me, probably even more colorful — but why would I need to spit on you for?'” Prescott recounted. “And he just spat on me in that moment. It was more of a surprise than anything.”
Regardless, Carter, who was a Pro Bowler last season, mentioned that the incident “f***ed me up” and assured it “won’t happen again.”
