Jason Statham’s Crime Caper Available to Stream Next Month

Tom Cruise and Joseph Kosinski may have saved the box office with Top Gun: Maverick, but Jason Statham is the financial gift that just keeps on giving. It seems like everything the actor touches turns to gold, with every title he appears in typically making hand over fist in dollar signs. At the top of the list, it won’t come as a surprise to fans that the action star’s most fruitful productions have been from the Fast & Furious franchise, with Furious 7 leading the charge with its impressive $1.52 billion gain. Right behind the seventh installment in the film series are The Fate of the Furious, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, and Fast X, making the high-octane speedy movies the biggest wallet-filler for Statham during his career.

Beyond Statham’s foray into the Fast & Furious movies, in which he underwent a villain-to-hero arc as Deckard Shaw, he’s found money-based success through his sci-fi survival film series, The Meg and Meg 2: The Trench, while his ensemble work in The Expendables and The Expendables 2 has also been a homerun hit. But, they simply can’t all be fruitful — even for the man, the myth, and the legend. Once one of the most money-making of his career, The Expendables took a nosedive through recent installments, while his latest project, Shelter, has left much to be desired at the box office.

Falling directly in the middle of a financial success and a financial failure is Statham’s 2012 Safe from filmmaker and writer Boaz Yakin. One of the more undersung titles in his arsenal, Statham’s work in the action thriller garnered mixed reviews from critics, yet still managed to beat out its $30 million production budget with a worldwide gross of $40.6 million. While it might not be the go-to Statham title that fans are willing to drop cash for on digital or demand, Safe will soon be available to watch completely free of charge when it arrives on Tubi on March 1.

What Is ‘Safe’ About, and Who’s in It?

Stepping back into the protector role that he’s so frequently cast in, Safe sees Statham as ex-NYPD cop, Luke Wright, whose background in law enforcement and cage fighting makes him an incredibly dangerous man to mess with. Tasked with protecting a young girl (Catherine Chan) from an onslaught of various mafioso syndicates and a group of corrupt NYPD officers, Luke does everything in his power to ensure the girl’s safety. In addition to Statham, the ensemble behind Safe also includes Chris Sarandon (The Princess Bride), James Hong (Everything Everywhere All at Once) and Robert John Burke (RoboCop 3).

Head over to Tubi on March 1 to stream Safe.
