Coachella has a well-earned reputation for surprise pop-ins and unannounced cameos, so it made perfect sense that Jennifer Lopez notched her festival debut on Saturday night (April 11) during David Guetta‘s set with no prior warning. After all, the dynamic duo recently released their high-energy dance collab “Save Me Tonight” and JLo has a bit of rare free time since wrapping her Up All Night Live in Las Vegas residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on March 28.
JLo excited fans when she took the stage in a silver high-cut bodysuit, barely covered by a feathery green jacket that she quickly discarded. The singer/actress chronicled her big night in a 90-second Instagram video, which opens with her exiting a private plane in classic Coachella fashion: stacked leather boots, a leathery cowboy hat, white feathery jacket, long flowery boho skirt, and fringed leather purse.
After striking poses on the jetway, we see Lopez smiling backstage as Guetta tells the crowd, “I invited a friend! … Make some noise for Jennifer Lopez!” The scene then quickly cuts from Lopez waiting to hear her name to her quick change into her glittery stage outfit, followed by her ride to the venue in an SUV and her iconic windblown entrance for the first live performance of the song.
“Don’t know if it lasts forever, but it’s now or never,” Lopez sang as the crowd went wild, the beat bubbled up, and a sea of phones popped into the air to capture the moment. “You could sa-a-a-ve me tonight/ Don’t know where your touch could take me, but it feels like maybe/ You could sa-a-a-ve me tonight.” At one point, Lopez hopped up on a platform near Guetta’s decks and then dropped in front of it to whip her hair alongside dancers dressed in electric blue leotards.
“The most fun day!! ‘Save Me Tonight’ with David live for the first time at MY FIRST COACHELLA was so special,” Lopez wrote in the caption of her post. “My happy era is rewriting everything. Don’t ever stop surprising yourself.”
Guetta also marked the moment by posting a highlight reel from his Quasar Stage set cued to his 2010 collab with Kid Cudi, “Memories,” featuring footage of Lopez performing and giving him a big hug at the end of their surprise set.
“Save Me Tonight” is Lopez’s first release since last year’s Kiss of the Spider-Woman soundtrack, which followed 2024’s This Is Me … Now. The song, her first collaboration with Guetta, was released on March 6 under What a DJ/ Warner Records and debuted at No. 18 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and No. 38 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay.
JLo wasn’t alone with guest appearances during Coachella’s first weekend. Karol G brought out Becky G for their collaboration “MAMIII,” Major Lazer’s set featured M.I.A. performing “Paper Planes,” Justin Bieber was joined by Tems and WizKid (“Essence”), and Kid LAROI saw Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker hop on the kit for “Chains & Whips” and “P.O.V.” during Clipse’s set. Camila Cabello surprised fans with “Havana” alongside Young Thug while Billy Corgan from Smashing Pumpkins dueted with his band on “1979.”
In addition, Teddy Swims hit the trifecta with surprise guests Joe Jonas (“When You Look Me In the Eyes”), Vanessa Carlton (“A Thousand Miles”), and former Van Halen singer David Lee Roth (“Jump”). KATSEYE was joined by voices from Kpop Demon Hunters — EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami — for an amped-up version of “Golden,” while Sabrina Carpenter’s set featured cameos from Will Ferrell, Sam Elliott, Susan Sarandon, and her former Girl Meets World cast mate Corey Fogelmanis among many other weekend surprises.
