Jimmy Kimmel Live‘s November 6 show was canceled at the last minute, and the reason has been revealed. Kimmel and his late-night talk show made headlines recently when he was temporarily pulled off the air amid pressure from the federal government over comments he made about Charlie Kirk’s killer. Disney eventually reinstated the comedian, and ratings for the show skyrocketed.
However, Jimmy Kimmel’s show was just pulled again when the episode scheduled for Thursday, November 6 was suddenly canceled. No reason was given at the time, but now more information has started making its way online. While ABC hasn’t stated a specific reason, it turns out Kimmel had to cancel due to an unknown “personal matter,” according to Deadline.
Audience members were informed that the taping had merely been “postponed” and they would have the opportunity to attend Jimmy Kimmel Live in the future.
Singer Madison Beer, who was set to perform that night, took to Instagram to reveal that Jimmy Kimmel Live “needed to reschedule” her performance due to “unforeseen circumstances.” She added that she would “share more details” when she reschedules her appearance in the future.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Jimmy Kimmel Live needed to reschedule my performance that was originally set to air tonight to a later date. I’ll share more details on timing when I can, I can’t wait for you all to see it.
Along with Beer, Malice‘s David Duchovny and Stranger Things season 5’s Joe Keery were supposed to be the celebrity guests during the now-postponed episode. It’s unclear if they will reschedule their interviews as well; it doesn’t appear that either one has made a public statement yet.
Viewers who tuned in to Jimmy Kimmel Live the night of November 6 saw a repeat episode with Hedda‘s Tessa Thompson, Shark Tank‘s Daymond John and musical guest the Beths.
No announcements have been made regarding next week’s shows. Ticket requests are still available on 1iota, the website that handles tickets for several TV shows. Assuming Kimmel returns to the air Monday night, fans will get to see interviews from George Clooney, Mike Tyson, Eddie Murphy, Morgan Fairchild, Jason Bateman and Mr. T throughout the week.
Kimmel’s contract ends in May 2026. He has talked several times in recent years about possibly retiring from the show. After all, he’s the longest-running late-night talk show host currently on the air, having premiered Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2003.
After returning to the air following his suspension, Kimmel might feel a renewed sense of motivation to stick around, though he and ABC are likely several months away from finalizing a decision either way.
After the suspension, it wouldn’t have been out of the question to wonder if this week’s cancellation was connected to a similar scandal. However, all fans know at this point is that the talk show host had to deal with a “personal matter.”
While it could be a health issue of a family member or the death of a loved one, he deserves privacy at this time, and viewers will have to wait until Monday night to see if he opens up about his one-night absence.
Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. EST on ABC.
