He may have made it out of the Upside Down unscathed, but soon Stranger Things favorite Joe Keery will face off against a monster of a new variety in Cold Storage. Slated for a limited cinematic release on February 13, the sci-fi comedy will see Keery take on a biological threat, but this time with the help of characters played by Georgina Campbell (Barbarian) and Liam Neeson (The Naked Gun). Today, in support of the film’s grand debut, Collider is thrilled to unveil a sneak peek of the project that perfectly captures the movie’s tone and gives us some insight into the personalities of our two heroes.
It’s just another day at the office for night guards Naomi (Campbell) and Travis, aka Teacake (Keery), who are doing their best to get through their mundane shifts at a storage unit. After crawling through the wall to check out a beeping sound, the pair comes back into the main area, where Travis scolds Naomi for pushing him beyond his comfort levels. After sharing a bit of a flirt and some back-and-forth banter, Travis makes the decision to continue the mission they started and calls the search back on — much to the excitement of Naomi.
While they may not know it just yet, Naomi and Teacake are about to stumble upon something that will change their lives forever and might even end them for good. As per the film’s logline:
“Teacake (Keery) and Naomi (Campbell), two young employees of a self-storage company built on the site of an old US military base, have their wildest night shift ever when a parasitic fungus escapes from the lowest sublevel of the base, where it was sealed by the government decades before. As the temperature rises underground, this highly contagious and rapidly mutating microorganism multiplies and unleashes its brain-controlling, body-bursting terrors on the facility’s inhabitants – human and otherwise.”
Who Else Stars in ‘Cold Storage’?
Along with a performance from Neeson that allows him to not only lean into his action hero background but also gives him space to spread his comedic wings, the ensemble behind Cold Storage also includes Sosie Bacon (Smile), Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread), and Vanessa Redgrave (Mission: Impossible). The film is under the direction of Jonny Campbell (Informer) with Gavin Polone producing. Ripped from the pages of his own novel, David Koepp (Jurassic Park) adapted the screenplay for the darkly comedic sci-fi feature.
Check out our exclusive sneak peek at Cold Storage above and see it in select cinemas beginning today, February 13.
