In a significant update for fans of Fall Out Boy, lead guitarist Joe Trohman will be stepping away from the band’s activities for the remainder of this year. Trohman has announced through an official statement that he will undergo necessary surgery on his right hand, a procedure that he has needed for some time. As a result, he will be dedicating the rest of the year to his recovery process, ensuring he can return to the stage in good health.
Joe Trohman’s Heartfelt Message to Fall Out Boy’s Supportive Fans
In his heartfelt announcement, Trohman reassured fans that despite his temporary absence, Fall Out Boy remains committed to fulfilling their concert obligations for 2025. He expressed his optimism for recovery and his eagerness to return to live performances with his bandmates.
The guitarist shared his thoughts in a statement:
Hey everyone,
After years of managing ongoing issues with my right hand, it’s become clear that I need surgery to avoid permanent damage. Unfortunately, this means I’ll have to take the rest of the year off from performing with the band. The silver lining is that I’m on track for a full recovery.
The band will still be playing all scheduled shows.
I’m looking forward to recovering so I can get back out there with the guys.
Thanks so much for the love and support.
Joe
This isn’t the first instance of Trohman taking a break from the band. Earlier in 2023, he temporarily stepped away to focus on his mental health, citing that his condition had “rapidly deteriorated over the past several years.” During his absence, he received support from the band and was replaced intermittently by Ben Young, who took over some promotional duties for their then-upcoming album.
After his hiatus that began in mid-January, Trohman made a return to the group by late May of that same year. However, the band has yet to announce who will fill in for him on guitar during this current absence, leaving fans curious about how they will handle their upcoming performances.
